Who needs to take Hunter Education?

Every hunter (including out-of-state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must successfully complete hunter education. Minimum age for certification is 9 years and cost is $15.

If you were born on or after September 2, 1971 and you are:

  • under 9 years of age, you must be accompanied*.

  • age 9 through 16, you must successfully complete hunter education, OR you must be accompanied.

  • age 17 and over, you must successfully complete hunter education; OR purchase a “Hunter Education Deferral,” and you must be accompanied

Texas hunter born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must complete this course.

  • Minimum age of certification is 9 years of age.

  • Those age 9 through 16 must complete Classroom course or Online (+) Field Course.

  • Those age 17 and above may complete Online-only in lieu of in person course

Important Facts about your certification

  • Certification is good for life.

  • Texas certification is honored by other states and provinces requiring hunter education.

  • You must carry proof of certification or deferral on your person while hunting.

  • Proof of certification is NOT required to purchase a license.

No minimum class size

  • All scheduled classes will happen

  • I can and will schedule a semi pvt class date For as few as 1.

  • Combine basic rifle and Texas Hunters Ed in 1 day. (extra fee for the basic rifle)

  • If you have the area for a skills trail, and classroom, I can travel to you. Local is no extra fee.
